Testimonials

“On Tuesday 6th September I attended a concert in St Chads Anglican Church in Poulton le Fylde Lancashire.
It was a joint concert between Harvey Stansfield and Charlotte Constantine.
I was totally mesmerised at the way Charlotte performed on several recorders and the flute. She played magnificently and her choice of pieces were perfect for the performance.
She played a horn pipe which got faster and faster, and the speed that her fingers went was amazing.
It was a flawless performance presented in a very professional manner and I was delighted to be able to sit back and enjoy it”.

"In the obbligato section for two recorders, in Purcell's 'Come ye Sons of Art', Charlotte played with great sensitivity and an excellent sense of ensemble. She presented herself well and it was very good to work with her. Botley Choral Society would certainly not hesitate in asking Charlotte back for future performances"
"Charlotte's performance as part of the London International Festival of Early Music series of online concerts was a pleasure to watch. In both Telemann pieces her technical mastery was evident, and her musical personality shone through. These, combined with a beautiful tone and excellent ensemble awareness made for compelling viewing".

A few remarks from David Burgess, Director of Music at All Saints Church, Botley and also Charlotte's previous recorder teacher. He writes about two separate concerts.

Performance

Charlotte is a recent MMus graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.  She particularly enjoys working with ensembles, but solo work has also been a big part of her music-making. Charlotte likes to play a wide range of early and contemporary repertory. As a keen flautist, Charlotte is influenced by flute repertoire, such as Bach Flute Sonatas, but it has also given her access to styles such as the Romantic style, something that is not commonly used in recorder playing.

Charlotte has had opportunities to learn from and perform in front of renowned recorder players in a masterclass setting such as Michael Form, Susanna Borsch, Louise Bradbury and flautist Wilbert Hazelet and ensemble masterclasses with Piers Adams and Bart Spanhove.

Whilst studying she performed with a group of baroque instrumentalists from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire as part of the London International Festival of Early Music, online concert series.  This involved playing G.P. Telemann's Trio Sonata for Recorder, Viola de Gamba and Continuo in F major, TWV42:f3 and also G.P. Telemann's Trio Sonata for Three Recorders without Bass, TWV40:151.

Collaborating with other musicians, the ability to listen to the opinions of others and work as a group to create a successful performance, is an environment in which Charlotte thrives. Most recently, she has performed as part of a duo with organist Harvey Stansfield at recitals including Blackburn Cathedral, St Faith's Church Crosby and St Chad's Church, Poulton-Le-Fylde. As well as her instrumental performances she enjoys singing in choirs such as being involved with Romsey Abbey for church services.

During her Masters studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire she had the opportunity to participate in many concerts, both as a soloist and as an ensemble player. This included: Music before 1700, Recorder with Electronics, Couperin's 300 year old Anniversary and International Woman's Day Celebration Concert. This has given Charlotte opportunities to play with different recorders and also electronic equipment.
