Teaching

Charlotte has a passion for music education and loves to pass her enthusiasm for music onto others. She aims to make all lessons fun and enjoyable and adapts lessons to the individuals desires and interests. Charlotte is happy to teach all ages and abilities, and has experience teaching 1:1, small group and also whole classroom teaching. She has great success with entering her pupils for ABRSM and Trinity exams. Whether you would like lessons for enjoyment or to take an exam - all are possible!

Currently Charlotte teaches in four schools including Durley Primary School, The Crescent Primary School, Hamble School and The King's School Fair Oak. Alongside this she currently has a successful teaching practice across Hampshire. She also teaches theory to the choristers at Romsey Abbey.

During her masters studies she did a final project that included a 10-week teaching placement with Birmingham Music Service. This involved going into three primary schools (Glenmead Primary School, Greet Primary School and Wheeler's Lane Primary School) and teaching flute, recorder and clarinet in a 1:1, small group and whole class setting. Charlotte had two mentor's who gave regular feedback,  and this allowed her to improve on her teaching week on week.

Whilst doing her undergraduate studies, Charlotte earned an instrumental fellowship for two years to teach flute at the King's School, Kidsgrove. She taught 1:1 lessons to secondary school pupils aged 11-16 years old. She also taught music theory to a group of students as a lunchtime club. Whilst here, she supported students with GCSE Music with great success. One student achieved an A* in her GCSE performance and an A overall in her GCSE Music. This was a great achievement not just for the pupil, but also the teacher (Charlotte) and the school. This was one of the highest grades the school had received for GCSE Music.

Charlotte also has experience running music workshops in primary schools. She demonstrated how to play the recorder and flute and gave a performance of typical repertoire. This is often part of school's initiatives to inspire children through different job roles.

Charlotte is happy to teach recorder, flute and music theory. She believes it is vital to have a solid foundation of technique and aural and theory skills are an important part of lessons. She is currently based in Romsey,  Hampshire and would be happy to hear from anyone interested in lessons below:
